Dara FitzGerald who has cerebral palsy called Access to Independence feeling overwhelmed because she had been denied services from In Home Supportive Services. This is a program that helps people stay at home who otherwise would be at risk of being institutionalized. Dara was in great need for assistance at home and Andrea Christopher, Access to Independence Independent Living Services Coordinator explained to Dara the steps on how to appeal her case with In Home Supportive Services. Dara and Andrea appealed the case and Andrea was able to go to the hearing to represent Dara. The judge ruled for her new home assessment, Dara and Andrea was at the home assessment when she won the case.
Dara says, “Thanks for the help from Access to Independence it feels like a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. I love my new caregiver and now all my needs are being met, I am very happy.”
