Our mission

is to promote full participation of people with disabilities; to help maintain, sustain, and maximize independence. 

Our promise

We promise to be on the cutting-edge of issues that affect you. We promise to offer relevant programs and listen to your needs. We promise that we’ll work together to secure a community that is open, inclusive, and free of barriers in all areas of life. We promise to be inspired by you. We promise to have fun along the way.   


The organization will be the hub of the disability community in San Diego County, Imperial County, and Honolulu. that promotes disability pride and passion. Through relevant programs provided by well trained staff, our center will support persons with disabilities to transform their lives through their own choices for how they live, work and participate in the community. 

We have a great team

Our Board of Directors come from a variety of professional backgrounds from across the world.


Our goal is to establish strategic partnerships with the most experienced and committed advocates to better serve our communities.

Letty Zuno

Letty Zuno holds a master's degree and Juris Doctorate Degree from Cornell University. She has worked for Access to Independence for over 15 years and has worked with individuals with a wide range of disabilities on their pursuit for independence.

Access to Independence is a nonprofit organization and all services provided to consumers are free of cost. 


Individuals with significant disabilities and are determined to benefit from programs offered, whose ability to maintain, sustain, or maximize a more independent life by receiving independent living services, and who will improve the ability to function, continue functioning, or move toward functioning independently in the family or community or to continue in employment.


Staff at Access to Independence provides a wide range of services that relate to all areas of life. Some of them include helping individuals transition from an assisted living home into the community, assistive technology education workshops, employment, artistic expression classes and much more!
