Empowering Independence and Inclusion
At Access to Independence, we offer a wide range of programs designed to empower individuals with disabilities to live independently, participate fully in their communities, and achieve their goals. Whether you’re looking for support, resources, or advocacy, we are here to help.

Our Programs
One Step at a Time
We provide personalized services to help youth with disabilities build and maintain the skills needed to live independently. These services include counseling, resource navigation, and support with daily living activities.
Homeward Bound Initiative
Our advocacy initiatives focus on standing up for the rights of people with disabilities at both the individual and systemic levels. We work to break down societal barriers, promote accessibility, and ensure equal opportunities for all.
Stepping-Stones Program
Provides housing assistance, accessibility modifications, and in-home support to help individuals with disabilities avoid institutionalization and remain living independently in their community.
Benefits Options Counseling Program
Navigating public benefits programs can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to do it alone. Access to Independence’s Benefits Options Counseling Program is here to support you in understanding, applying for, and maintaining the benefits you are entitled to.
Advocacy Program
We offer targeted services to support young individuals with disabilities and their families. From mentoring programs to guidance for parents, we strive to provide the tools and encouragement needed for young people to thrive.
Seeing Possibilities Initiative
Living with vision loss doesn’t mean giving up your independence. The Seeing Possibilities Initiative at Access to Independence is designed for individuals age 55 and older who are experiencing vision loss or blindness. Our team provides personalized, in-home and community-based support to help you stay confident, capable, and connected.
Emergency and Resilience Response Program (ERRP)
ERRP helps people with disabilities prepare for emergencies like extreme heat, wildfires, and power outages. We provide personalized emergency planning, supply backpacks, and education on staying safe during disasters. Our team works closely with consumers to build tailored plans and connect them with alerts, resources, and local support to ensure they are ready—before, during, and after an emergency.
Access to Ballot
We support voters with disabilities in exercising their right to vote with confidence and independence. We provide one-on-one services to help with voter registration, understanding accessible voting options, practicing with mock ballots, and requesting accommodations. Through outreach, education, and advocacy, we work to remove barriers and ensure every voice is heard at the ballot box.
How Our Programs Make an Impact
Over the past 48 years, our programs have empowered thousands of people with disabilities to overcome barriers, gain independence, and improve their quality of life. Through ongoing support, advocacy, and community partnerships, we continue to create lasting change.
